Larp Politics and Larp Realia

We are now accepting submissions for the Solmukohta 2016 twin books Larp Politics and Larp Realia.

LARP POLITICS: Politics has always been part of larps. Some games have purposefully dealt with political issues, and politics both inside and outside the larp scene has always affected the way games have been made. The political Solmubook will focus on theories, instances and implementation of the politics of larp and political larps. Possible topics include, but are not limited to, larp as a form of political action, the internal power structures of the larp scene, and practical guidelines for organising political larps. We appreciate references to previous works and seek to publish commentaries on the political discourse in the Solmukohta scene. Articles about individual political larps are welcome, but the analysis should exceed mere description. We aim to create a book that presents diverse points of view about the political dimension of larp. However, we do not accept texts promoting colonialism, racism, homophobia, sexism, or any other form of bigotry.

LARP REALIA: Each year, the Knutebooks have been in discussion with their earlier reincarnations. New games have sparked new thoughts and theories, and new interpretations of old games have helped us reflect on the development of the scene. Examining and re-examining our theories and interpretations of games have led to a vivid evolution of larp. The general Solmubook will proudly continue the tradition and join the discourse of reimagining the scene. If you have done, seen, or thought something new or interesting, we want to hear from you. We wish for a broad diversity of voices, and encourage both veterans and beginners to send in their ideas. We welcome reviews, opinion pieces, analysis of the whys and hows of larp. What we do not seek is straight-up documentation of games.

The final articles for both books should be between 1,500-5,000 words in length. We also welcome any photography, fascinating charts and other supplementary or illustrating material for your article. We can also provide assistance in developing your ideas into full-fledged articles.

The deadline for abstracts is October 20th 2015. The length of the abstracts should be 200-300 words. Please note the book you intend the article for in the e-mail heading (i.e. “Abstract, Larp Politics: name of the article” or “Abstract, Larp Realia: name of the article”). The final deadline for the full articles will be December 27th.

Please send your ideas and abstracts to us at solmubook2016@gmail.com.
